Toles Summarizes the Entire RNC in 44 Words

Why is it that the perfect irony of this cartoon seems to have escaped the media at large? McCain stood on the stage and complained about Washington throughout his speech, ignoring the fact that he has been Mr. Washington-Insider for the last three decades.

McCain’s TV ads say Washington is broken, but he’s voted with Bush 95% of the time. If it’s broken, he broke it. Why the heck would we want to re-hire the same lousy management team that brought this mess to us in the first place?

Makes no sense.

Katrina Part II - Or McSame Dodges One

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, George Bush and John McCain were celebrating McCain’s birthday (see birthday cake photo below).

This time around there’ll be no cake as Gustav bears down on the Crescent City, but McCain may be quietly thanking his lucky stars over the timing. President Bush and Dick Cheney are using the storm as an excuse to stay away from the Republican National Convention, something they couldn’t have done otherwise. (Source)

Since McCain doesn’t want to be tied to closely to this horribly unpopular president, it’s almost a relief that they’re not coming.

Talk of a truncated convention is not all bad news for John MCain either, since he is not the orator Barack Obama is by any means, and would look bad by comparison. Gustav may give McCain a reprieve on two fronts.

I’m not suggesting McCain wanted New Orleans to be threatened again by another major storm, but if it had to come, now’s a good time for his campaign.
