Making an Oak Tree out of an ACORN
Sunday, October 19th, 2008

John McCain, keynote speaker for ACORN, 2006
The McCain-Palin campaign has set about the task of making an Oak Tree out of an ACORN, if you’ll pardon my tortured metaphor. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN for short, has been accused of perpetrating massive voter fraud by Senator McCain.
All hyperbole aside, what’s the charge against ACORN? Turning in voter registrations with fake names. Donald Duck, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, for example are registered to vote in multiple states. So what about that, sounds pretty serious, right?
“It is more likely that an individual will be struck by lightning than he will impersonate another voter at the polls.”
— Brennan Center for Justice at the NYU School of Law (Source)
To hear McCain and Palin tell it we’re in the midst of a massive lightning storm that’s striking people with such regularity that it is “destroying the fabric of democracy.”
But it’s even more of a cynical political move than it appears on the surface. Senator McCain has long been of a friend of ACORN, in fact he was a keynote speaker for the group in 2006. (Source) In fact the photo at the top of this article was taken at that event.
Finally let me just add that these “bogus” names are being reported, and culled, by none other than ACORN itself. Ask yourself why John McCain has a sudden new found hatred of ACORN? Could it be yet another piece in his “politics of distraction” campaign? Perhaps one designed to blunt cries of of “foul” over the Republicans massive voter suppression efforts, or the reports of electronic voting machines flipping votes already?

McCain Train Losing Steam
Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Recent polling shows that 60% of McCain voters were “once excited” about the election but are now “not excited.” McCain’s favorables ratings have dropped 21 points since mid-September. (Source)
Support for Barack Obama remains strong and in fact has increased during the same time period by 5 points.
Personality also plays a roll, with 46% of those surveyed saying McCain is “hot tempered” and only 13% saying the same for Obama.
“He’d be a little nerve-racking to have in the White House, jumping real fast. When you’re talking about war, that’s something you don’t want to do, jumping real fast.”
- Comments from an Independent Voter from Michigan (Source)
Polling was conducted by AP News and Yahoo.

McCain Still Chasing Obama
Thursday, October 16th, 2008

After last night’s third and final Presidential debate, John McCain finds himself still chasing Barack Obama in the polls. The post debate snap polls showed clear victory for Senator Obama, the CBS poll found Obama won 53% to 22% with 24% calling it a draw, and CNN polling found it 58% to 31% in favor of Senator Obama in the third contest.
In the BubbleMixx poll of polls, we see that by a more than 2 to 1 margin likely voters found that Barack Obama won last nights debate.

Perhaps even more important are these numbers; prior to the final debate CBS polling found that 54% of voters thought Obama shared their values, after the debate that number grew to 64%. Likewise CNN reports that Obama’s favorability ratings increased post debate from 63% favorable to 66% favorable, while McCain’s ranking slipped to just 49% favorable.
