1 Billion Gals of Toxic Sludge Oozes Towards River

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

sludge spillIn case you missed it on Dec- ember 21st a TVA levee wall burst in Oak Ridge, Ten- nessee. But it wasn’t water in the retention pond, but rather 1,000,000,000 gallons of coal ash sludge, a byproduct of coal fired power plant.

Initially TVA estimated the spill at about 350 million gallons, but had to up the spillage estimate to 1 billion gallons upon closer examination. The sludge spill roared downhill and reached depths of 6′ burying cars, porches and even downing power lines. (Source)

So what’s in a billion gallons of coal ash sludge? Well concentrated levels of mercury and arsenic, according to environmental experts. TVA experts claim there’s no danger to humans from the chemicals. This claim despite hundreds of fish turning up dead in nearby waters. (Source) Naturally many local residents aren’t too comforted by the TVA’s assurances.

The spill is working it’s way into the Tennessee River, the source of drinking water for 1 million Tennesseans. TVA has built a rock wall to try to stop the sludge from oozing in.

“You have acute problems we are dealing with today, but we’ll have chronic problems for a long time. This whole area has been devastated environmentally.” - Stephen Smith of CleanEnergy.org (Source)

Japanese Ladyboy
Another Japanese Man Exploring his Feminine Side

Early this September in Tokyo an unidentified male Japanese Airforce Major went on a naked shopping spree at a convenience store. (Source) The naked man was trying to purchase women’s panties and nylons; to explore his feminine side perhaps.

Feeling to restricted by his uniform, the shopping commando, went shopping commando. The naked major apparently decided he would strip before going into the store to “surprise” people, thinking they would find it funny. The clerk decided to share the joke with the police who charged the nude flyboy with indecent exposure, since the boy had way more than his fly down.

The real mystery is where did he keep his wallet while he did his nude shopping?

McCain and the Blackberry - Treason?

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

By now of course you’ve already heard that a McCain staffer claimed John McCain invented the Blackberry. Asked why he thought, McCain was qualified to lead America out of this economic crisis, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a senior McCain policy advisor, held up his Blackberry and said:

Blackberry“He did this. The premier innovation in the past 15 years comes right from the commerce committee. So, you’re looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create.” - Holtz-Eakin (Source)

Blackberry, a Canadian company, had no comment on this revelation. However every American needs to ask themself, “If John McCain is a true American, why did he invent the Blackberry in Canada?” I’m not going to suggest, as some might, that such a thing borders on treason, just let every American make up his or her own mind on the subject.

Just consider this, in 2007 Blackberry generated $1.37 Billion in revenue for parent company RIM, a Canadian company! (Source) That’s enough money to pay for almost 2 days of the Iraq war! (Source)

Poor Drug Addicted Cindy McCain - Updated 9/13/08

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Cindy McCain

In 1994 John McCain’s wife Cindy was addicted to painkillers and even stole from her own charity to feed her habit. She admitted as much publicly in 1999 on national television on Dateline and Good Morning America, in an attempt to get out in front of the scandal. (Source)

This story first came to light because of Tom Gosinski. Tom Gosinski worked for Cindy McCain at a charity she directed called American Voluntary Medical Team, AVMT, and over the course of his employment came to recognize that Cindy McCain was abusing prescription pain medications. As Amy Silverman reported:

Gosinski had already come to suspect that Cindy McCain had gotten volunteer doctors with AVMT to sign prescriptions for her, and had used employees’ names to fill them. Worried his own name had been used (he would eventually learn that it had), Gosinski approached DEA agents in the spring of 1993 to report McCain’s suspicious behavior. The DEA launched an investigation. (Source)

Cindy did no jail time, but instead entered a “diversion” program. PillsOne can only imagine that her options would have been much narrower had she not been a wealthy heiress and wife of a prominent senator. John McCain claims to have a tough stance against illegal drug use, but apparently not when it comes to his own family.

The Obama campaign says that “families are off limits” but if the shoe were on the other foot what might the Republican candidates say about a wife with a drug problem, and a VP with a pregnant teenage daughter? Family values anyone?

Update 9/13/08: AlterNet is reporting that McCain may have tampered with the DEA investigation of his wife’s drug crimes. Details Here
