n a match that was really never a contest, the Columbus Crew defeated the New York Red Bulls for the Major League Soccer championship. The Crew who’s MLS leading record of 30-17-7-6 were never in danger, scoring early and often.
Alejandro Moreno scored in the 31st minute of play, putting the Crew up one nil. John Wolyniec of the Red Bulls equalized in the second half, but a mere 87 seconds later Chad Marshall’s header restored the Crew’s lead. Frankie Hejduk scored the final goal in the 82nd minute putting the Red Bulls down for the count.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto of the Crew set a MLS Cup record with three assists, and played brilliantly throughout the match. He was named MLS Cup MVP to go along with his earlier League MVP accolade. (Source)
